Pick your poison, amnesia or experience

Can we truly forget ?

In the Bible, it says in Isaiah 43:25;

“When you forgive, learn to forget.”.

However, since people are fallible, we are unable to live up to these standards consistently. The honest true is that it is much is easier to forgive but much harder to forget.

  • Can we really forget the offence we suffered ?
  • And even if we could forget, do we really want to ?

The two pills

In, the movie The Matrix, Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne) gives Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) two choices. The choice between taking the red pill and the blue pill.

Morpheus says;

“Take the blue pill and remain a slave to the illusion. Take the red pill and become a slave to reality”.

This is what, in clear terms, each pill means to us:

The red pill

You know someone has taken this pill when he tells you anyone of the following;

  • I will never forget what you have done to me
  • I will keep reminding you of this till your last day
  • Have you forgotten what happened ?
  • What you did has pained me! I shall not forget it

In short, they will never forget the slight you have committed against them. The red pill is for them. This is also called the remembrance pill.

It is all about remembering the wrongs done to you. By being able to remember you are better prepared to face the future.

The blue pill

This is also called the amnesia pill.

In short, forget all the wrongs done to you. Stay in a state of bliss when someone wrongs you. You simply forget it and do not recall it.

You will forever amnesia on all sins committed against yourself.

The upsides of taking this pill is that you always go into each encounter giving the other person the benefit of the doubt. Also, you stay in the good grace of the Lord since you have truly forgiven and forgotten.

To conclude, I leave you with this decision. When given the choice of

  • forgiving, and forgetting, or
  • forgiving but remembering for the sake of experience

Which pill would you take ?
